That walk in the beach

29 09 2011

we were driving along the beach road in besent nagar.. woha.. it was an amazing evening.. calm and peaceful.. yeah we chose to drive on a government holiday when most people will be indoors watching TV..

splendid it was.. when we parked the car and took a walk inside the beach.. bare foot.. holding hands.. feeling the breeze ruffle through the locks of my hair was an awesome feeling.. and so was the feeling of sand between my toes… we were talking about those times when we were a young couple.. it was in 1960 when we were married.. I was a 17 yr old then… dint know what it took to manage a family… and now? look at me.. I have grand children..

how much ever things have changed around us.. I’m so glad that, still sometimes He treats me like That 17-year-old whom he married years back.. on and on we walked till it became dark… but it was just 7Pm.. we had asked people at home not to expect us before 8.. it is our anniversary today… so we sat by the waters.. and spoke of the green patches of our life together.. how we stood for each other even when we fought over  the tiniest things…

then he got up.. gave me a hand to get up.. we stood near the water my head resting on his shoulder.. His arm around my waist…and slowly we walked back to the car.. I just dint want the evening to come to an end.. I was hoping with all I ever had that life had a pause button.. so that I could freeze this minute and cherish it for the rest of my life…

Circle of Love

28 07 2011

She had a bond with me that was totally unbreakable.. she was my best of friends.. I used to accompany her everywhere.. and then came a time when she found a new friend.. someone who occupied her whole day.. she was left with very little time for me now.. I was so heartbroken.. and then she introduces the friend to me.. I was shattered.. slowly the friend occupied her days entirely.. there were days when we both spent time mindlessly chatting.. now she hardly has time to say good day.. I was so shaken that I told this to him.. and he said, it’s about time.. I was caught by surprise.. to that he said.. our daughter has chosen well.

I waited and waited for her to return only to tell her our decision and kiss her to sleep, and all I did was only wait longer.. and finally she came with him laughing cheerfully.. she was surprised that I was waiting.. and dint know what to say.. she said.. “amma”

I waved goodbye to him along with her.. smiling brightly.. and asked her about him.. she hesitated.. I smiled.. she said ma I …. him.. I said, I know.. she said amma…? I said appa and I have spoken.. and if you wish to, we are game.. happiness gleamed in her eyes.. she was in all smiles totally caught by surprise.. she ran to the road and yelled deii…

He came running and barked loudly and licked my feet.. I picked him up and my 4-year-old smiled brightly.. she said amma I call him tom.. I said OK let us clean him and make a kennel for him tomorrow.. can we get some rest now?

Riches, a deadly temptation..!

20 07 2011

This is another old story which is worth being told again!

disclaimer: the characters mentioned below are imaginary, any resemblance to any living person is purely coincidental.

By the waters of Aalapuzha lived 2 families whose sole bread earning profession was fishing. Ajeev joseph and johnny mathew religiously go to the waters everyday and fish together and sell it in the market. at the end of the day, they divide the share equally and take it home. Yet what sandra joseph was unable to comprehend was the fact that despite getting the same amount of money at the end of each day, how lilly and johnny mathew are able to be so happy?

lilly’s house was always flooded with friends and relatives.. the fun they all had while partying every night by the bonfire they lit near their hut which was by the shore knew no bounds.. at the end of all the singing dancing and cracking jokes, somehow lilly managed to feed everyone who had come with rice and fish which was fried in an abundance of coconut oil..

But sandra who also received the same sum of money never had satisfaction. she never had money for fun, to go out, to invite people for food, to be contented. she envied the mathew family.

One such night, her curiosity got the better of her and she secretly slipped out of her house to watch what the mathews and people were doing and how did lilly manage the money.. to her surprise, lilly got not a penny more than what sandra had gotten from her man. she divided the sum of 15 rupees into 2 parts. 7 rupees for buying food for tomorrow morning, 8 rupees for enjoying tonight. then jhonny took the 8 ruppes and brought fish and food for all of them.. then the clapping and cheering continued till dawn..

sandra went back home and narrated this to ajeev and he is left quite surprised at the fact that how can lilly and johnny be so happy without having any concerns about the future? how can they be so care free without saving any money for tomorrow? they came up with an idea.. sandra and ajeev made a kizhi (small pocket) and filled it with coins to sum up to 97 rupees. they left this kizhi at the doorstep of the mathew’s before the sunrise.

lilly came out next morning to find this bag.. and she was surprised and elated that Jesus had blessed them with a fortune.. she was elated.. but she did not share the news with sandra. that night when johnny came, they divided the money into 3 parts instead of 2.. to save 4 rupees and make the 97 as 101 coins. slowly they started keeping more and more in the bag.. since they had some, they wanted to make it more.. and slowly they were tempted to save more and more.. and all the celebration vanished.. they only spent what was just enough for the 2 of them and saved the rest.. slowly the 101 became 150.. and within no time they had 300.. but their happiness, the fun they had, the contentment and satisfaction were all gobbled by the temptation which that bag of 97 rupees gave them..!

Man made money.. money makes man mad…!!

the temptation that money gives us to gain more and raise the standard of living, is like an itch that gets interesting as you scratch and changes its location on you as each place you scratch turns red with irritation…!!

Luxury

18 07 2011

I read this story in a mail forward and it totaly moved me…! I dint find the original copy so i’m penning it on my own since I remember every bit of that short story..

Scene 1: its 9 Pm and Ramu is at his residence cutting beans for the next day’s cooking helping his wife while he’s watching TV and listening to his wife (Viji) who was telling him what happened during the day.. his 2 year old daughter (Meena) had just slept after playing with daddy and his 8 year old son (Guna) was doing his home work.

Ramu works at an MNC not as someone who does coding.. but as the person who cleans the tables. yes he’s part of the house keeping section of the MNC. Viji is a home maker and she does odd jobs in two to three houses there by adding money for rotation in apart from the meager 4500 rupees that Ramu earns.

Despite the fact that Ramu and Viji literally fight 30 days a month for 1 square meal, they make sure their kids get what they need even if they dont get what they want.

Scene 2: Guna is done with his homework and comes running to his dad and hugs him and asks him what happened in office today. Guna after a while says,

G: “Appa, i want a cake”

R: “seri vangi tharen” (ok i’ll buy for you)

G: “Appa, not one piece.. yenakku oru round cake venum pa”

R: expressionless (a full cake… its something he cant even dream of affording)

G: appa i had been to sekar’s house appa.. avan oda birthday-a so enna kooptu irundhan pa.. avan oru round pink cake vechi cut pannan pa.. yenakkum adutha masam happy birthday varudhu le? please appa… yenakkum venum pa…

R: Baffled.. but since he dint want to disappoint his son then and there.. he said “pakalam da kanna.. ippo poi thungiko.. odu”

G: happily went to bed

Ramu talks with Viji until the day’s work is over in the kitchen and they both retire for the day

Scene 3: Next day in office:

its lunch break and its almost drawing to a close around 2 45.. the tables are almost empty and and hence, ramu sits in a corner and ponders over the cake guna had asked for..

Suddenly there are loud noises in the cafe.. one group is celebrating someone’s birthday.. the noise continues to the “happy birthday song” people chase one another.. they all eat some cake and then leave..

dutifully Ramu goes to the spot to clean the mess the group had created by throwing on each other and playing with THAT CAKE which RAMU could not even DREAM OF AFFORDING for HIS SON GUNA.

The Making Of A Mother (stolen story)

11 07 2011

By the time the Lord made mothers, He was into the sixth day working overtime. An Angel appeared and said “Why are you spending so much time on this one?”

And the Lord answered and said, “Have you read the spec sheet on her? She has to be completely washable, but not elastic; have 200 movable parts, all replaceable; run on black coffee and leftovers; have a lap that can hold three children at one time and that disappears when she stands up; have a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee to a broken heart; and have six pairs of hands.”

The Angel was astounded at the requirements for this one. “Six pairs of hands! No way!” said the Angel.

The Lord replied, “Oh, it’s not the hands that are the problem. It’s the three pairs of eyes that mothers must have!”

“And that’s on the standard model?” the Angel asked.

The Lord nodded in agreement, “Yep, one pair of eyes are to see through the closed door as she asks her children what they are doing even though she already knows. Another pair in the back of her head are to see what she needs to know even though no one thinks she can. And the third pair are here in the front of her head. They are for looking at an errant child and saying that she understands and loves him or her without even saying a single word.”

The Angel tried to stop the Lord “This is too much work for one day. Wait until tomorrow to finish.”

“But I can’t!” The Lord protested, “I am so close to finishing this creation that is so close to my own heart. She already heals herself when she is sick AND can feed a family of six on a pound of hamburger and can get a nine year old to stand in the shower.”

The Angel moved closer and touched the woman, “But you have made her so soft, Lord.”

“She is soft,” the Lord agreed, “but I have also made her tough. You have no idea what she can endure or accomplish.”

“Will she be able to think?” asked the Angel.

The Lord replied, “Not only will she be able to think, she will be able to reason, and negotiate.”

The Angel then noticed something and reached out and touched the woman’s cheek. “Oops, it looks like You have a leak with this model. I told You that You were trying to put too much into this one.”

“That’s not a leak.” the Lord objected. “That’s a tear!”

“What’s the tear for?” the Angel asked.

The Lord said, “The tear is her way of expressing her joy, her sorrow, her disappointment, her pain, her loneliness, her grief, and her pride.”

The Angel was impressed. “You are a genius, Lord. You thought of everything for this one. You even created the tear!”

The Lord looked at the Angel and smiled and said, “I’m afraid you are wrong again. I created the woman, but she created the tear!”

Har ek bahu, ek din saas banegi (marumagalum oru naal mamiyar aaval)

Title kum story kum sathyama endha sambandhamum illa… just because there is an MIL and DIL in my story.. the title is this.

ok so there is an MIL and DIL.. and as usual (mega serial la vara mari) they both fight over everything and nothing.

seri, rendu per kum per veppom.. namma sad chandra went to talk to her mom about this.. her mother asked her to adjust with hwe MIL and make her husband and MIL happy.. appo anga avanga mama vandharu. indha prechanaya kettutu oru vazhi pannuvom nu sonnaru.

MASTER PLAN: (mama + chandra’s mom)

he takes a box and fills it with ajinomoto (taste maker) this matter is unknown to chandra..

he hands her the box and tells her that it is poison powder(slow poison). he tells her, everyday while cooking add a pinch of this powder in the end.. but oru condition.. you should cook the food with enormous love for your husband and MIL. how much ever you get shouted at, just dont take it to heart.. cook everyday with looootttssss of love.. and serve them with love.. dont forget this powder.. eventually your MIL will attain “shiva loka prapthi” then you can be happy with your husband.

chandra claps in joy.. andha powder eduthutu sandoshama veetuku vara.. and religiously she follows her mama’s words.. she happily cooks everyday with great love, adds the powder and serves with love and joy..

as days went by, the love she showered in the food, flowed and reached the MIL’s heart ad she was in all praises for chandra all over the neighborhood. also chandra started liking her very much and ippo she was feeling bad that mukhi will be leaving them because of that poison powder (ajinomoto)

she runs to her mama and narrates the same.. her mother and mama smile at chandra’s innocence and tell her the truth about the poison powder actually being aginomoto.. and chandra heaves a sigh of relief..

from then on, she continued to shower loads of love to all that she did and namma chandra, mukhi and chandra’s husband lived happily ever after.

Sweets that we serve at dessert.. applause… father is in all smiles.. (yo modhalla soru podunga ya.. appuram sweet sapdalam)

“salt” — pause… everyone is watching her in silence.. what a dumb answer, will anyone serve salt in a meal? after a second, the daughter continued.. it gives flavor to everything that is served…! (idhu pudhusa irukke…?)

Father was surprised at the level of thinking of the third daughter. and from then on, she became his favorite among the three and they lived happily ever after..! (feeeeelingss.. )

Onam

23 08 2010

What does this word bring to our mind?

Mallu festival.. girls clad in mundu.. flower kolam.. saddhi.. and ofcourse the Mahabali story.

Mahabali story in short: A demon king who is heavy in the head – performs yagam and decides to give anything to any one who approaches him – folks go and get money,  riches, land, herds of horses, elephants, etc – a small made man ( God in disguise) approaches him and asks for land that amounts to 3 steps taken by his little feet – brushing aside the objections from his raja Guru (shukracharya), Mahabali grants the guest his wish –  The small made man changes form and becomes Maha Vishnu – within 2 feet measures the entire bhoomi and aakash were taken – he asks Mahabali where to place the third measure – Mahabali realises the magnitude of the Greatness of the Lord, surrenders to Him and asks Him to place the third measure on his head and asks for a last wish – Maha Vishnu kindly obliges – Mahabali expresses his wish to return to bhoomi on that day every year and visit the folks of his kingdom – Thus Onam is celebrated with great Pomp and Show to show Mahabali every year,  that his folks are enriched with wellness and are as prosperous as they were when he left them.

Onam aasmashagal to all 🙂 🙂
